Sydney | Andy Polaine | Fjord | The Future of Design Ethics

  • Golden Age Cinema & Bar 80 Commonwealth Street Surry Hills, NSW, 2010 Australia (map)

Tickets for this event will be released here on Thursday April 19th.

For the last couple of years, an existential crisis has been brewing in the world of design.

In 2017, Natasha Jen, a partner at Pentagram in New York, claimed that “design thinking is bullshit”. More recently, Khoi Vinh, a designer at Adobe, countered -sort of- in a talk titled “In Defense of Design Thinking, Which Is Terrible”.

In their desire to have a seat at the table of big business, many designers have worked hard to bundle their approach to perceiving and changing the world in to a neat, saleable package.

But in an age where thoughtful creativity and deep empathy are more in need than ever, has Design lost something in the translation to Design Thinking? And is a seat at the table what designers actually need?

To explore these questions with us, we’re delighted to announce Andy Polaine as our next speaker.

Designer, author and Regional Design Director for APAC at Fjord, Andy has the experience, perception and perspective to help us unpack this thorny issue as part of our global series exploring The Future of Design Ethics.

We can’t wait to see you.

**Please note that the talk will start at 8 am sharp. We will provide free coffee at this event, please arrive no later than 7:50 am to make sure you have time to get the coffee.
