The Rising Interview

Where are you right now?
M:I’m in new york but I’m connected to list of places
N:It’s a very good question… it can have so many answers. it depends on many things. We don’t know. it is one of the great mysteries of life, that is why exploring space might give us some answers - we explore because we want to know where we are and who we are.

Where do you go when you need inspiration?
M: In a coffee place, in a bar, anywhere - just talking to Neil in any busy place
N: You don’t need a quiet place for inspiration, when you’re in a noisy place with lots of activity then your senses aren’t blocked. A club with lots of music and lots of lights. A place where you can’t talk to anyone, so you are forced to think, you can’t do anything else, and I don’t dance.I start looking at things from a different perspective.

Idleness. A gift or curse?
M:Even if you look like you’re not doing something you are.
N:It’s impossible to be idle. Even when you die you are doing something. It’s not possible so it would be a gift to go against the forces of nature.

To Bitcoin, or not to Bitcoin?
M:Yes. I think an alternative to what we have is always good. In the future we don;t need real coins anymore.
N:’s more ecological amongst other reasons. Money is from human imagination so it is better if it remains non physical

Liberal Democracy or Democratic Liberalism?
M:In catalan these words mean something else, what seems left here is right.
N: We don’t understand this.

Carpe Diem or nosce te ipsum (know thyself)?
N:If you know thyself you seize the day

Last app opened?

Last book read?
M:El Libro de los Abrazos - Eduardo Galeano
N:I’ve never read a book. I have read music manuscripts.I also enjoy reading palms.

Favourite Album?
M:I don’t have a favorite album. I have very eclectic taste, i can enjoy anything - except heavy metal.
N: I don;t listen to music. I never listen to music. There is always music around me, but I never actively listen to an album.
I feel i have listened to all these notes, in different orders. I enjoy listening to sounds, like the sounds of different vacuum cleaners, they create a harmony. But in an album you can expect what notes you’ll hear, the same 12 notes.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
M:I remember when I realized my parents weren’t right, and from that point i made a decision not to listen to them anymore. You don’t need to be the person your parents think you are.

N:my philosophy teacher told us it was not bad to cross at the traffic light when it was red. That it was okay to break the rules. Even if society thinks that what you’re gonna do is not right, if you feel it is right you should do it.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever bestowed?
M:Go out.
N:I don’t like giving advice to people. At this time of life.
Go beyond what would be natural, especially in conversation, with any type of subjects, e.g whats should we do tomorrow? some can answer in a sentence, or you can go on and on and on. If you feel like you have arrived at an idea, keep going.
Yeah it would be great to listen to color, but what’s next? to think about all the “nexts”. Pushing the ends, the walls, especially with simple things like definitions.

If you could be anywhere, where would it be?
M:On the Moon.

If you could be remembered for one thing, what would it be?
M: To respect nature and animals, and to see that buildings are the problems and not earth quakes. Earth quakes don’t kill people, buildings do.
N: Helping humans extend their senses in order to perceive nature, space, and other species in a more profound way.

In the next three years what innovation will have the greatest impact on technology/business/culture?
N: The use of the internet as a sense.
M: Bio compatible 3D printing.
