The Rising Interview

Where are you right now?
Tokyo. I've been on vacation here with family.

Where do you go when you need inspiration?
Japan. When that's not possible, I go for a walk around New York City.

Idleness. A gift or curse?
A gift..

To Bitcoin, or not to Bitcoin?

Democratic Liberalism

Carpe Diem or nosce te ipsum (know thyself)?

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
Alexis Ohanian (Reddit Cofounder) once told me to be wary of advice and to keep on doing what I am doing.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever bestowed?
I'm not sure I can take credit for this, but I would like to pass on Bruce Lee's admonition to "be like water." I think that applies to fighting and to life in general.

If you could be anywhere, where would it be?
Playing capoeira. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art hidden in dance. I've been practicing capoeira for 5 years now. I love traveling for work and for fun, but when I'm on the road, I miss training with my capoeira group.

If you could be remembered for one thing, what would it be?
That I rocked the boats that needed rocking.

In the next three years what innovation will have the greatest impact on technology/business/culture?
Collective Intelligence: how large groups of people, facilitated by technology, can work together to solve problems and to build shared knowledge. Think of it as crowdsourcing 2.0 and leveraging network effects to make 1 plus 1 equal 3.

I'm probably a bit biased in my answer though since I've been doing research in this field.
